EOTD: Green smoky eye makeup inspired by The Hobbit and Middle Earth

I've been immensely fond of The Hobbit (and Tolkien) ever since my Mum attempted to cheer me up through a bout of German Measles with the immortal words, "In a hole in the ground, there lived a hobbit." I used to wait outside my door, hoping some wizard would pass by, draw signs on the door and the next day, I would have strange dwarves to tea. Never happened. It was only when I entered my teens that the LOTR craze swept the rest of my peers, thanks to Peter Jackson. Enough background.

Here is my Middle Earth-inspired green smoky eye makeup look to celebrate the release of the second installment of The Hobbit series, using Too Faced eyeshadows.

Rivendell may be brown and gold; Lothlorien may be silver. And Mordor may be black. But for me, the Shire is all about Middle Earth, and it brings to mind varying hues of green. I didn't want to use other colours this time. For this look, I picked the Too Faced Liquif-Eye Shadow Collection palette. This happens to be the first palette I ever bought. It comes with a bottle of liquid that you can use to transform the shadows into eyeliners. I've used up the eyeliner liquid mostly and will swatch the shadows for you soon.

In the crease, I applied a deep green shade called Exclusive - not much, though, just enough for some depth. On the lid, I first applied Steel Magnolias, which appeared too lime-green for my liking, so I dusted it off a little and added some Steel Magnolia shadow to darken it, and applied a minty green shadow called Fantasy Island over it to lighten up the lid and bring out the difference between the crease and lid. I used a beige gold called Oscar for the inner corners and blended it outward into the crease and lid as well.
As usual, I didn't highlight my brow bone. I used Too Faced Shadow Insurance as primer and my Beautyblender Detailers brush set previewed here. I finished off with M.A.C. liquid eyeliner in Treat Me Nice and Manic Panic Mascara in Creature Of The Night. Argh, a strand of hair from my bangs has escaped down to the eyebrows in the photographs!

As you can see from the first picture - with my eyes open - you don't have to worry about green looking odd, garish or flashy, unless you're going to walk about with your eyes permanently closed!
Since I haven't had enough of LOTR, I'm sharing New Zealand Mint's official coin set to commemorate The Return Of The King. The set is legal tender and accompanied the LOTR-commemorative stamps issued back in 2000-2003 by New Zealand Post (that's where the movies were shot). The stamps were always out on December 4, my parents' wedding anniversary, so I used to buy them all (Nerd alert).

Next Friday, I will be in the Persian Gulf, where Fridays and Saturdays are holidays. Hoping I can manage to do a makeup look, though!
