Too Faced Lip Injection Color Bomb review and swatches of Bee Sting

Too Faced Lip Injection Color Bomb review and swatches of Bee Sting
Among the plethora of palettes and lipsticks I picked up in December was the Too Faced A Few Of My Favourite Things makeup palette, reviewed here and much-loved by me. This came with a mascara - Too Faced Lash Injection - and a plumping lip tint, the Too Faced Lip Injection Color Bomb Moisture Plumping Tint in Bee Sting. Too Faced was one of the first brands to come out with a lip plumper. I am not a fan of lip gloss or sheer tints and give all of them away unopened. But this is Too Faced, a brand I love more than all others except for theBalm and Benefit, so I decided to try it out. Moral of story: If you make up your mind not to try out lip glosses and tints, STICK to your decision.

Here is my review and the swatches Too Faced Lip Injection Color Bomb in Bee Sting.

This was where I fell, lock, stock and barrel. The cute pale pink tube with the deep gold cap had me from the word go.

Formula and pigmentation of Too Faced Lip Injection Color Bomb

The colour is on the sheerer side. The formula is paraben-free and cruelty-free. This is supposed to contain vitamins C and E and moisturising butters. The texture is creamy and glossy. The product is supposed to plump up your lips by 20% though my lips are big enough not to need plumping of any kind.

I have no idea about the staying power of this thing. I love experimenting but there are certain things I will not do for this blog and endangering my own health is one of them. Read on to find out more.

Swatches of Too Faced Lip Injection Color Bomb in Bee Sting

Here's a swatch on my forearm, two swipes. Bee Sting is a sheer pale pink.

Within minutes of swatching this product, or applying it on my lips, my skin burns - not tingles - like mad and my skin also begins to itch - think pins and needles combined with burning. This isn't confined to the swatch area alone but spreads through my forearm and there is some trauma, as you can see below. Too Faced says tingling and a temporary redness may occur, which will subside within 10 minutes. But this is severe burning and itching, and even after washing off the product, the skin remains tender and pink for a while until I apply aloe vera gel or some emollient and give it a good rest. The same is the story of my lips, which is why I am not showing you lip swatches for this. Incidentally, this is very similar to the way my mouth reacts when I take sulpha drugs, to which I've been confirmed allergic.

I admit to inheriting several food, drug and skin allergies (Thanks, Mum!) and to having oily, breakout-prone skin, but my skin isn't as sensitive as all that; it can tolerate rough handling. The picture below is some 20 minutes later, after a douse in cool water and a rub with The Body Shop Shea Whip lotion, which is why the skin isn't as angry as in the picture above. I won't be using this tint again.

Bottom Line
It is a mercy the product came along with the palette and I didn't go pay for it - and that I love the Too Faced palette so much. There are people who love this product, but I googled Too Faced Lip Injection skin sensitive and found Isabella of Musings of a Muse had exactly the same experience I did, so I am not alone. Read the comments on her review to find more people with similar stories of burning and skin trauma. Try this product with extreme caution.
