Too Faced A Few Of My Favourite Things makeup palette review, swatches, photos

Too Faced A Few Of My Favourite Things makeup palette review, swatches, photos
Too Faced A Few Of My Favourite Things makeup palette review, swatches, photosMy first ever eyeshadow palette was the Liquif-Eye Shadow Collection from Too Faced Cosmetics, so I have a bit of a weakness for their palettes. I especially wanted A Few Of My Favourite Things for two reasons. One, it features favourites of Too Faced's founder, Jerrod Blandino. For another, the name reminds me of a much-loved song from my favourite musical and one of my favourite books (The Von Trapp Family Story).
When I saw the palette in Sephora in December, the size of it made my jaw drop - the external box is as large as my netbook - and twice the thickness. It features a pink and gold chevron pattern exclusively designed by celebrity designer Mary McDonald.

Read on for the full review and swatches of the Too Faced Cosmetics A Few Of My Favourite Things makeup palette.

Packaging of Too Faced A Few Of My Favourite Things makeup palette

Inside the external box is a pretty PVC pouch featuring the same design. I love it when you get these pouches with the makeup. The pouch is 10.5'' x 6.5'', and houses the palette, Too Faced Lip Injection in Bee Sting and Too Faced Lash Injection Mascara. I won't be talking about the mascara and the Lip Injection here as both deserve a detailed look.

And, finally, the palette itself. A cardboard palette with magnetic closure, this is made in the USA and assembled in the Dominican Republic, like several Too Faced and Urban Decay eyeshadow palettes.
There are 20 eyeshadows, two bronzers and two blushes inside, along with a little flyer featuring tips and looks.

I love the names of the blushes and eyeshadows in this palette - Raindrops on Roses, Whiskers on Kittens... We're missing Bright Copper Kettles, though we have Woollen Mittens. I'm surprised that one of the bronzers isn't named Brown Paper Package, whether it is tied up with strings or not.

We have Cream Coloured Ponies and Crisp Apple Strudel - no doorbells or sleigh bells or schnitzel with noodles. No Wild Geese either, though there is Moon on Their Wings. I can't see Girls in White Dresses, though Blue Satin Sashes is a stunner. We do have Snowflakes... and we jump to Melt Into Spring, as we don't have anything for nose and eyelashes or silver white winters. There are other names such as Pure Glam, Soiree, Bluff and so on; nothing to do with Rodgers and Hammerstein. And the Lip Injection is in the shade, Bee Sting! Song-fetish over, back to the eyeshadows themselves.

Formula and pigmentation of Too Faced A Few Of My Favourite Things eyeshadows

As with other Too Faced products, no parabens in shadows, blushes, bronzers, mascara or lip thingy. All shadows - except one - are soft and buttery. Moon on Their Wings feels a bit rough. Great pigmentation, especially for Ooh La Orchid, Blue Satin Sashes, Evergreen and Party Time. Some beautiful duochromes among the lighter shades. Everything except for Moon on Their Wings is easy to blend.

The Chocolate Soleil matte bronzer smells of chocolate with a bit of cinnamon somewhere!

What I didn't like about A Few Of My Favourite Things

Moon On Their Wings is a fall-out-fest. I swear I only swatched it on the forearm and it's all over the place - on my hair, in my ears....

Some of these pots are not very firmly glued to the palette and I have already had "Snowflakes" jump out at me - I've pressed it back inside and am hoping for the best. But nothing a glue gun can't cure. And the Lip Injection, but that is another story.

Shades and swatches of Too Faced A Few Of My Favourite Things

First, the blushes and bronzers.
Raindrops on Roses - Shimmery pink blush.
Melt Into Spring - Matte peach blush.
Chocolate Soleil - Lovely matte medium-brown bronzer with the scent of chocolate and cinnamon. Yum!
Sun Bunny -A copper bronzer-duo.

And now for the eyeshadows.
Snowflakes - Pale silvery-gold eyeshadow. This swatches very thickly, so you have to be very lighthanded.
Whiskers On Kittens - Matte peachy-white shimmer. Tends to wash out my skintone unless used to highlight.
Chocolate Milk - A beautiful matte milky-brown. Absolutely love this shade for the lids.
Moon on Their Wings - My bete noir in this palette. There's gold, beige and brown and way too much fallout and chunky glitter. I feel like de-potting this and pouring it into a bottle of clear nail polish.
Dark Chocolate - Matte deep brown. This is a great eyeliner and for smoking out Chocolate Milk.
Cream Coloured Ponies - A matte ivory, which would be a great highlighter and inner corner shade.
Honey Honey - A golden copper duochrome. Love this for the lids, paired with Buche de Noel.
Buche de Noel - A shimmery dark brown that makes for a pretty neutral crease.
Evergreen - This has to be the best green eyeshadow I've ever seen. I will be doing an EOTD with just this shadow, because nothing must take away from this shade.
Blue Satin Sashes - A strikingly pigmented teal blue with the odd gold shimmer when it catches the light - see swatches below.
Coquet - Champagne pink; will be used for highlighting.
Taffy - Pearly-pale baby pink. Again, a highlighter.
Crisp Apple Strudel - Come to mama! I love this shade so much! It's a bronze shimmery shadow with rose gold thrown in.
Woollen Mittens - Another matte brown, this time a medium - will pair well with Chocolate Milk.
Soiree - Shimmery deep maroon. Will need to be packed on for the pigmentation to show up.
Tinsel - Shimmery olive gold. This will go well with Evergreen, although Evergreen is so gorgeous, I want to wear it alone.
Bluff - A beautiful dusty steel-purple. I wish they had a paler shade of this for the lid.
Ooh la Orchid - Matte bright purple. I'm glad they included this for a late-2013 palette, because 2014 is the... okay, you're tired of the word Pantone.
Party Time - Shimmery mermaid blue. I can imagine how stunning this would look on someone who can blend shadows well. High time I learnt to, then!
Pure Glam - This looked like a very glittery black but the glitter barely shows up on swatching.

Bottom Line
Too Faced A Few Of My Favourite Things is a palette I absolutely love and will be using heavily. I should have liked to see some brights in there, such as a brighter blue and a mauve or two, but this is a winter palette and I can't expect the moon - even on my wings. Sorry for the bad pun, I'm tired after all the travel.
