Lip Factory August 2014 review, unboxing

Lip Factory August 2014 beauty box review, unboxing
Amid all the beauty boxes from Asia, I am also a Lip Factory subscriber. For first-time visitors, Lip Factory is a US-based makeup subscription box that ships worldwide. You get five or six full-sized makeup products each month. The operative word here is full-sized. Every three or four months, they do an all-lips box, featuring lip makeup alone. The subscription costs $22 a month within the US, with an extra $10 for worldwide addresses. To order, go to lipfactoryinc.com. Make sure you quote my referral code 385650 for 50 points apiece, which you can redeem against products or boxes.
I cannot find a theme for the August 2014 box. Usually, this is printed somewhere or the product card. The September box, on the other hand, is Fall-themed, from spoilers.

Here is my review and unboxing of the Lip Factory August 2014 beauty box.

The contents of my August 2014 Lip Factory Box are:

  1. Medusa's Makeup Stick It Eye Primer
  2. Cult Nails Lacquer in Walk of Shame
  3. Pink Powder Parlor Lipsticks in 702 and 301
  4. LA Splash Mineral Blush in Pink Treasure
  5. Red Cherry False Lashes in Chloe
Six full-sized products there. A quick look at each.

Medusa's Makeup Stick It Eye Primer

I love Medusa's Makeup. This brand is cruelty-free and the primer contains entirely natural oils, waxes and mica. I always use eyeshadow primer, which means I can never have enough of it, so this is a welcome addition to my stash. It would need a brush for application, though. Something like Sephora 57, which is actually a concealer brush. Despite the tone, this primer goes on completely transparent. It feels waxy but not heavy or greasy. I will give it a try beneath a couple of shadows and see how it goes.

Cult Nails Lacquer in Walk of Shame

This is why I love Lip Factory boxes. Walk of Shame is my first polish from Cult Nails, a vegan-friendly, cruelty- and five-free brand. It is a gorgeous glitter polish, containing large hex and smaller round gold and point holo glitter. I am just getting over some awful nail damage and have tiny nubs now. Once things look up, I will swatch this for you. Beautiful polish!

Pink Powder Parlor Lipsticks in 702 and 301

What a name! Pink Powder Parlor. I have been looking at their website and they seem to be a fun brand focusing on pink makeup. I would like to see more of this brand in future Lip Factory boxes. The lipsticks are creamy, lightweight and glide on nicely. I have not tested their staying power beyond a sandwich and three hours, and there was no problem. The pink 301 lipstick had sweated a bit in transit but nothing that a few hours in air conditioning could not cure. Detailed review and swatches later.

LA Splash Mineral Blush in Pink Treasure

I will be honest. I am not a fan of LA Splash. Their products do not work for me as a rule. Besides, I already have a few blushes I love and have an eye open for Benefit Majorette, which I have fallen in love with. This is a loose mineral powder blush. Going unopened into my swap or sell bag.

Red Cherry False Lashes in Chloe

My profile specifically says no falsies. At least they did not include the hated lip gloss in my box! But unlike the falsies you get with Memeboxes, these do not look like plastic, or unnatural, and are made of 100% human hair. I have been wondering about wearing falsies to my wedding and these feel soft enough. I wish they came with lash adhesive, though. Will hang on to these.

Summary
I love the nail polish, followed by the eye primer and the pink lipstick. I am not a fan of the falsies and the blush is not too exciting for me. But overall, I liked this box. It has been a while since we saw a nail polish in a Lip Factory box and I prefer getting polish to anything else. I am so glad they have kept away lip gloss from me again, although I could also have done without the falsies. But you cannot win them all and these are only $2.50, so their replacing anything else would have meant a huge disparity in value between my box and other boxes.
August is actually the end of my six-month subscription. I am in two minds on whether to continue or not. On the one hand, I have loved some of the boxes ever so much. On the other hand, there is always the risk of falsies and lip gloss. I will sleep on it this weekend and decide on Monday or Tuesday.
