Ipsy Glam Bag January 2015 review

Ipsy's January 2015 beauty bag is themed Fresh Start.

Ipsy Glam Bag January 2015 review

Having observed the contents of the Ipsy Glam Bags regularly for quite a while now, it is my - extremely unscientific - hypothesis that the bags get better in Winter before falling into a rut after the first quarter of the year. However, I hope "Fresh Start" means we will have consistently good bags this year.
Take the January bag, for instance. Four full-sized products with one travel-sized tube, compared to the August 2014 bag, which had one full-sized product - a lip balm. Also, I like this month's blue-and-white bag which will hold a few essentials in my desk.

Check out the contents of my January 2015 Ipsy Glam Bag below.

I received:

  1. Coastal Scents Liquid Eyeliner in Jet
  2. Elizabeth Mott All Over Shadow brush
  3. Hey Honey! Take it off Exfoliating Honey Peel Mask
  4. Malin+Goetz Mojito Lip Balm
  5. Pacifica Mineral Coconut Eyeshadow in Ethereal

Coastal Scents Liquid Eyeliner in Jet

Ipsy Glam Bag January 2015 reviewI already have the J.Cat Fantabulous Eyeliner from a previous Lip Factory box, so I am glad I got the Coastal Scents one, and even gladder that it is liquid - my preferred eyeliner formula. The applicator is felt-tip and not a brush. Here is a somewhat narcissistic swatch. While I will be using this, I hope Ipsy does not make black eyeliner - especially those mini pencils - a regular feature of each bag over a continuous period, as they did before.

Elizabeth Mott All Over Shadow brush

Oooh, you can send me any number of brushes in beauty boxes, thank you! I love this soft, densely packed pink brush for packing colour on the lids. Bristles are 100% synthetic. Maybe a blending brush or a face brush next time, Ipsy? Or would that be gilding the lily?

Hey Honey! Take it off Exfoliating Honey Peel Mask

You can send me any amount of face masks as well. This gel mask sample is probably good for two uses and contains AHA. Trying it out this weekend, mostly on Sunday.

Malin+Goetz Mojito Lip Balm

You had me at mojito. This is paraben-free and is not tested on animals. Why aren't more lip balms wine- or pina colada- or even beer-flavoured instead of plain old strawberry and orange?

Pacifica Mineral Coconut Eyeshadow in Ethereal

This cruelty-free eyeshadow was supposedly the star product in the January bag but to be honest, it is not my favourite. First of all, there was a Pacifica eyeshadow duo in June or July or so, and sending pretty much the same thing six months later is not the wisest way of pleasing your subscribers. If they must have sent these out, why not go in for non-neutral shades which people may not already have? I would love an outlandish lime green shadow in a beauty bag, since I wouldn't normally buy that shade.

Verdict

A really good bag this month; I liked everything except for the Pacifica eyeshadow. I hope they continue to have more full-sized products each month rather than those miserable 2ml tubes. February spoilers have just come in and there's a full-sized angled brush OR China Glaze polish OR eyelash curler OR NYX eyeliner pencil OR Rob Scheppy for Tini eyeshadow, apart from four other products. Eeeep! I hope I get the angled brush or the CG polish. Keeping my fingers crossed!
Stay tuned for another unboxing post tomorrow - no, it isn't a Memebox.
