Memebox January 2015 beauty box 19 review, unboxing

Here is the first Global Edition Memebox of the year.

Memebox January beauty box 19 review, unboxing

The Global Edition Memeboxes received an overhaul in late 2014 and were promptly renamed "monthly Memeboxes". Which is fine, but then shipping for each box begins on the 24th of the month so chances of these boxes reaching their destinations - most often around the world - in six days flat are remote and the January box itself reached me on February 4. I wonder when they will wise up to that one.

Read on for my unboxing of the Global Edition 19 Memebox, recently rechristened the January 2015 box.

The contents are:

Five of those things are full-sized. First impressions:

Pureplus+ Acai Berry Magic Bubble Cleansing Foam 80ml

This foaming cleanser is packed with super-berries including acai. The fruit acids provide antioxidants and leave the skin supple and elastic. The cleanser claims to remove makeup and increases collagen production. For me, this is a mild daily cleanser, good for the mornings. But it does not remove all my makeup, especially not Lancome Hypnose Doll Eyes waterproof mascara and my J.Cat gel eyeliner. I like the way this smells, though.

The Choute Aurora Pearl Base 30ml

A very mildly shimmery primer for the face, this gives a pearly - dewy, if you like - finish. It contains peppermint extract, lemon balm and other natural hydrating ingredients. I have the most oily face in human history - no, really; every half an hour, I turn an A4 sheet of paper transparent with my face alone and that is NOT an exaggeration - so I already get a dewy finish with any primer and foundation after a point. This is going to my dry-skinned friend

Secret Nature Moringa Seed Toner 130ml

I love moringa anything for skincare. It is a very mild yet effectively hydrating ingredient that does not break me out. This toner contains moringa seed extracts, hibiscus flower and fermented lotus flower extracts to soothe irritated skin and lock in moisture. There is a very generous quantity here.  I am not a fan of toners, but am tempted to give this a try because of the moringa factor.

Mimi Lauryne Beauty Lesson Hand Cream 50ml

Cute packaging, innit? Imitate Anatomicals AND Philosophy much? This hand cream contains macadamia seed oil and I got the zesty citrus version. It smells great, and you can never have enough hand cream, especially in this dry weather. Recent discovery: Hand creams make better foot creams than actual foot creams themselves. Will definitely use!

Esthetic House Vitamin 3000 Vitamin C Vita-Capsule Cream 30ml

There is no need for me to talk about the uses of Vitamin C in skincare. This cream apparently incorporates encapsulation technology which allows for effective delivery of vitamin C. I will be giving this a try soon, particularly over my dark spots.

Syndrome Cosmetic CB Revitalising Fermenting Essence 2 x 1ml sachet

Syndrome Cosmetic CB Cream Gold for Whitening 2 x 1ml sachet

WHY have they started giving out 1ml foil sachets in Memeboxes? Big dislike! The essence contains bifida and galactomyces, but there is barely enough to cover my pinky, leave alone my face. Also, the other product is meant to whiten - no, not reduce hyperpigmentation and dark spots, but actually whiten. Boo!

Verdict

Of all the Global Edition Memeboxes so far, this is one of the more disappointing boxes, probably there along with The One That Had Tampons. Foil sachets in beauty boxes are a HUGE no-no, because we PAY for the darn products in the boxes. Or include about two weeks' worth sachets so we can give the product a decent try, and not just one or two! The full-sized products, apart from the hand cream, did not really wowwww me - a foam cleanser, a toner and a face cream have been definite features in most recent Memeboxes. Why not be a bit imaginative and add a peel-off mask, an exfoliating cream, a cleansing oil, a foot cream, a body butter, a hair pack, a lip or eye primer, something for tightlining, a lip tint, lip mask, lip treatment, eye packs, eye creams... the possibilities are endless!
