Ten Mothering Sunday Gift Ideas

Treat yourself or your mum to one or more of these goodies this weekend!

Here are some great beauty and skincare gift ideas to treat yourself or your mum on Mothering Sunday!

Mothering Sunday is the fourth Sunday in Lent and can be traced to the 16th century, when people attended service at their "mother church" (with their mothers, of course), and evolved into giving gifts to mothers, as the household helps usually had the day off. It is different from Mothers' Day, which is celebrated on the second Sunday in May - the latter had secular origins. I give my Mum a little something for both days. It was when I began living alone at Uni that I went from take-your-mum-for-granted-she'll-pick-up-after-me to OMG-I-have-a-Supermom-how-does-she-do-it-all mode, so I cannot show her my appreciation enough. There really shouldn't be a time and reason to treat and pamper your mother, but budget constraints mean I'm relegated to birthdays, anniversaries, holidays and occasions such as this.

Check out some great gift ideas to treat yourself or your mum on Mothering Sunday - all of them ship worldwide!

1. EleVease Shower Step, reviewed here

A MUST-HAVE for any woman! This is a sturdy shower step which you affix to the corner in your shower - it makes shaving, scrubbing and cleansing the legs much easier, as also clipping and painting toenails. I have no idea how I lived without this till last year. It changes your life and I am not exaggerating. No more hobbling on one foot or having to carry footstools into the bath. Believe me, every woman needs this.

2. Emjoi Micro-Pedi Unit

I have just ordered one for my Mum and it will be delivered by next Monday. It comes with a manicure kit free if you buy from here now. I've tried a couple of variants and they were all more abrasive while this has gentler rollers. I bought myself a Micro-Pedi last Christmas and loved it and when I showed it to my Mum, she loved it so I decided I would buy her one at the earliest instance.

3. Elle Macpherson Wet and Dry Brush

While I haven't tried dry brushing yet, I know my Mum does. This handy device comes with a pumice stone, an exfoliating loofah, a deep cleansing brush and a dry cactus brush. Designed by Elle "The Body" Macpherson who claims it is the reason she looks like she does. I'd love one for myself in 10 years' time.

4. Foreo Luna

I got a mini for myself for Christmas 2013 and bought a full-size for my Mum this Christmas. I tell you, the dupes don't cut it. This comes in different variants for normal, sensitive, ultra-sensitive and combination skins and uses T-Sonic pulsations through skin-friendly silicone touch-points to cleanse the skin gently but thoroughly.

5. Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade

My Mum swears by this. Having spent her youth in the 1980s-90s, she, like many other girls at the time, ended up tweezing her eyebrows within an inch of their lives. She talked me into buying one for myself and, despite having scouse brows, I swear that doing my brows is now a breeze, in one simple, fallout-free, smudge-proof, long-wearing, transfer-proof step. Go buy!

6. This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Talk

This calming set is for the mums who are restless sleepers. Mine sleeps through thunderstorms and wasn't even shaken awake when I had peritonitis some years ago. But if you or your mum, like me, will wake if a leaf moves in the next county, this relaxing set of aromatherapy and a pillow spray is for you. I got the spray in my LookFantastic beauty box and it works!

7. Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette, reviewed here

What woman doesn't love neutral makeup, especially if it smells of and looks like chocolate? 'Nuff said.
Buy it here.

8. LookFantastic Beauty Box

Of all the beauty boxes I have tried so far, the LookFantastic box is age-proof. Check out my unboxings here. It contains more skincare than makeup and the brands chosen are all brilliant. I love whatever I get, and so does my Mum. If you are a makeup fan, your Mum will definitely appreciate this subscription - save when you buy three-, six or twelve-month subs.

9. L'Occitane Weekend in Provence gift set

Pamper yourself/your Mum with the most popular fragrances from L'Occitane. This set contains a foaming bath, a shower oil, repairing shampoo and conditioner and hand cream, all in decent sizes. This is the sort of set I turn to when I need a quick gift!

10. Burt's Bees Tips 'n Toes Hand and Feet Kit

If you are looking for a nifty budget gift set, then this is the answer. This contains a lip balm, a foot cream, a Beeswax hand cream, a hand salve, cuticle cream and Honey and Grapeseed Hand Cream.
