Holika Holika Wine Therapy Sleeping Mask Review

After all the Holiday festivities, it is time to heal - with wine. Cabernet Sauvignon, no less. Star ingredient Resveratrol is an excellent antioxidant that will calm and detoxify the skin and remove dead cells.
Made with Bordeaux Cabernet Sauvignon, Holika Holika's Wine Therapy Sleeping Mask comes in a jar shaped like a wine cask. Take a look inside the cask and tell me if you crave a glass of red or not.

The ingredient list does not ring any alarm bells on CosDNA (Thanks for getting me addicted to the website, Anastasia of Glamorable) apart from alcohol, but I have used skincare containing alcohol without any problems. Even my topical antibiotic contains alcohol.
There is also a white wine variation for the mask, but obviously it does not contain as much polyphenol as much as the red version. It also contains dimethicone, whereas the red version is 'cone-free.  The white version is Chardonnay-based.

The product itself looks like red wine, but also smells exactly like quality red wine - not cheap plonk! The texture is semi-liquid and lightweight.
What you do is, apply a thin layer of the product all over the face - too much can drip all over the place - and turn in. One scoop with the spatula is enough to cover the whole face for me.
The smell... I don't even have words. It makes me want to have spicy food and down a glass.

Since I went to flood-infested areas in December and caught a bad skin infection, my derm has put me on a rather harsh regimen with antibiotic pills four times a day and topicals twice a day for six weeks (at least). This mask - and a couple of spray-on moisturisers - are the only products that are soothing my ravaged face at the moment. It has brought down the oedema on my face overnight and also reduced the medicine-induced flaking. I apply it twice a week and wake up to far less-ravaged, much smoother, decent skin on those mornings. No exaggeration here.

Verdict and where to buy

Holika Holika Wine Therapy Sleeping Mask is a lifesaver for me. I have pretty much withdrawn from public life until the infection goes down, but when I do have chores, I apply this mask the previous evening and wake up to much improved, softer, brighter and smoother skin.
The mask does a stupendous job soothing and calming my angry skin as it fights staphylococcal bacteria, without clogging pores or contributing to breakouts at all. I will definitely continue to use this well after my skin recovers. Beats me how Koreans are able to come up with such fabulous skincare products.
One jar (120ml) costs $19.73 on W2Beauty and will last for months (worldwide tracked shipping is just $2.50).
