Birthday Beauty Haul 2016

It was my birthday yesterday. Despite having made up my mind - and convinced family and friends - to avoid cake this year, the lovely chef at Le Meridien MADE one very quickly once he found out what was going on, and I cut it at 10:30p.m. with complete strangers joining in. Sadly, I only have iPhone photos from the celebrations. Will show you my purple EOTD once I'm energetic enough to resize those photos.

Scroll down to check out the beauty products to which I treated myself this year.

Lilla Rose Flexi Hair Clips Review

Despite never going out without makeup, I am lazy when it comes to styling my hair. On most days, I cannot be bothered to blow-dry, iron or curl it and prefer the wash-untangle-air-dry-go-out routine. It would take all day to style my hip-length hair anyway. Invisibobble ties and scrunchies - yes, scrunchies - are usually my go-to, even to flashy events.
Lilla Rose Flexi Clips (PR sample) effortlessly add some zing to my otherwise listless hairstyles. They are a breeze to use and remove and are tough enough to endure my rough handling.

Scroll down for my review of the Lilla Rose Flexi Hair Clips and how I use them.

Fuss-free Half-up, Half-down Ponytail Tutorial For Frizzy Hair

Try out this super-easy, everyday ponytail that is voluminous and bouncy.

Fuss-free Half-up, Half-down Ponytail Tutorial For Frizzy Hair

Ponytails are usually synonymous with sleek hair but my super-frizzy hair does not give a toss. My go-to hairstyle for almost everything from work to play is a half-up, half-down ponytail. It keeps the hair tangle-free and away from my back, and is not flat, but bouncy and voluminous. Not as serious as a bun and far more convenient than open hair. My hair is quite long and leaving it open and loose everyday would mean serious detangling every night.
All you need for this look are two accessories - a hair tie or a scrunchie, and a claw clip. I recommend the flat-backed revolutionary Linziclip, with hidden springs - reviewed here. The beauty of this style is that the hair tie is hidden, so you can actually wear a scrunchie without feeling that the world is laughing at you for staying back in the 1990s.
Here's how you get this fuss-free, wearable frizzy-hair ponytail.

Burberry Lip Mist Natural Sheer Lipsticks review, swatches, photos, staying power

Burberry Lip Mist Natural Sheer Lipstick swatches, review, photos, staying power
I received the Burberry Lip Mist Natural Sheer Lipstick sampler palette when I hauled a tonne of makeup through OrderMakeup UK (see here). I love lip samplers; you can swatch them at home and use the shades a few times before you decide whether to buy or not. I had a Dior Addict sampler palette which lasted more than a dozen uses each (swatched and reviewed here).
This Burberry Lip Mist palette comes with four shades, which I have swatched for you below - Copper, Rosy Red, Feather Pink and Blueberry.

Mini haul: Accessorize handbags, notebook and freshener

Who doesn't love Accessorize? Kill-joys? Anyway, I picked up a notebook, a room freshener and a pair of spacious handbags which I love. Looky!

Angry Birds themed footwear: Flip-flop haul

When I saw the Angry Birds on flip-flops I couldn't resist getting myself some, despite two of them being one size larger than my size (37 or 4).
The orange pair is with heels, the others are all flat. Cute? Or juvenile?
And this white and purple polka-dotted pair of flip-flops is my current favourite. Incredibly comfy.

Dress parade: Debenhams and Zara buys

It has been one of those slow Saturdays and I've just finished my book. So I thought I would share a couple of things I bought last week from Zara and Debenhams. The black dress with leopard print and the blue trousers are from Zara while the first two dresses are from Debenhams. Yes, the leopard print dress was on sale and it is crumpled as well as too large for me (it is medium). But I wanted the print even if they didn't have my size. I'm hoping to emotionally blackmail request my aunt to alter its waist for me - she's a whiz at sewing.
I also bought a couple of shirts from Zara. Apologies for the very amateur posing and photography.
P.S. Do vote on the poll at the top of the sidebar! I'm going shopping for my giveaway next week.

Casual wear shoes, flat leopard pumps and espadrille wedges

It is a rather busy day, so I thought I would share a couple of pictures of some of my favourite pairs of shoes. These are all casuals, though the last pair isn't too comfy for walking. The espadrille wedges above are from H&M.

Fashionable knee-length day dresses for spring and summer

I adore dresses. I prefer them to skirts, jeans, trousers, capris, leggings, tunics, shirts, saris... anything else, really. Until I turned 20, I wore jeans only while travelling. It was mostly casual dresses to classes and the odd skirt and jumper the rest of the time. Dresses are the comfiest of all clothing - no elastic, belt, buttoning, pins or other tight restraint necessary to keep the garment in place, though there are dresses that come with all of the above.

I love this silk dress and its silk shell within. I bought it in Singapore for $189 on Boxing Day sales. I am not someone who usually goes in for frills and flounces - at least, not after my eighth birthday. But I love the frills from the collar downwards on this dress. This is not a day dress, so I wore it to my birthday dinner, with strappy sandals and a gold box clutch (in picture). It buttons all the way down the front, but thankfully these buttons are brass-coloured and look very vintage. You need to wrap it in tissue to prevent wrinkles and only ever dry-clean, but it is worth the trouble.
