LookFantastic Beauty Box June 2017 Unboxing

I shot a video of this unboxing over the weekend, only to find that the results were way too dark in this sunless, rainy weather. Turns out it's the Sony Handycam's fault, while my Canon DSLR is a far better choice for videos under poor lighting conditions. Lesson learnt.
LookFantastic's June 2017 beauty box is the Wanderlust edition - obviously containing travel essentials. The box design is one of the prettiest till date. Size has gone up as well, and now the box itself accommodates the Elle UK magazine for the month.

Lip products that do not work for me

Lipsticks, crayons, tints and stains I cannot stand.

Check out the lipsticks, lip crayons, tints and stains that do not work for me, and why.

Time to spring-clean, and that includes my makeup stash. I found about half a dozen lipsticks I haven't used in ages, that I cannot stand. Terrible staying power. Caking. Flaking. Burning reactions. Blotchy formula. Whatever be the reason, these lip products simply do not work for me.
Before we go any further, here is the disclaimer: Just because something does not work for me it does not mean it would not work for you. You probably love many of these lippies. No fighting or bad-blood intended. I do sound harsh. I will mellow after the weekend, but I still will not like these lipsticks.

Check out the lipsticks, lip crayons, tints and stains that do not work for me, and why.

Clarins Travel Bright White face palette review, swatches, photos

Clarins Travel Bright White face palette review, swatches, photos
Usually, I am not really fond of travel/all-makeup palettes, preferring eyeshadow palettes, and individual products such as mascara, concealer and face powder. But I do own two travel palettes - one from Clarins and the other from Lancome. I thought I would dig them out now, as I am leaving for Doha in two weeks' time and am about to pack for the trip.
This is the Clarins Travel Bright White Face Palette. I love the packaging. Inside the red external box is this cute, chic white rectangular "clutch".

International beauty box: My September 2013 Lip Factory Box

If you read my previous post on the Lip Factory Box here, you'll know my June box got lost in the post and the lovely ladies there sent a replacement which arrived in August. I missed out on the July and August boxes as a result and paid for the September box last week. They sent me the tracking info, which said "departed USPS sort facility in Florida" on September 14 - naturally, I didn't expect it for another two weeks and forgot its existence. I got the shock of my life when I received the September box today - five days flat after they posted it! How DID they do that, teleporter? Or did they bring the Concorde out of retirement?
Even the local subscription boxes turn up by the fag end of the month or even in the first week of the following month, while this comes by mid-month, from halfway around the world. To subscribe, all you have to do is visit the Lip Factory website, give them your details and quote my reference number 384919 (you get 50 redeemable points and a bonus).

International beauty box: Lip Factory Box review, unboxing, photos

Lip Factory was the first international beauty box I "discovered", thanks to Jac. This is no mere sampling programme - for $32 including international postage, you get six full-sized products according to your profile. As the name says, every four months, the box will be lip-centric. Otherwise, you can expect a lippy or two and a nail polish and an eye item in almost every box. Because everything is full-sized, this is really good value for money ($5.50 or so per product is darn cheap, currency fluctuations notwithstanding). To subscribe, quote my reference number 384919 and quote Renu of My Beauty Junction and we'll have some fun!

Stain, scrub and salve: My top lip products

Five is too small a number, but this tag has been going around for a while and Shikha of Sorelle Grapevine, who tagged me, insists that I need to stick to five. So I'm sort of cheating with an also-rans section!
Here are my Holy Grail lip products:
1. Chanel Rouge Double Intensite in Rose Garnet
2. Lush Bubblegum Lip Scrub
3. Smith's Rosebud Salve
4. Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Lip Pencil in N@ked
5. Lancome La Laque Fever in Chromed Pink

Review: Soap and Glory's Sexy Mother Pucker lip gloss

Cait Scott of Little Mrs Bow was one of the earliest beauty bloggers I followed when I began this blog. I love the cuteness of her blog, especially those ladybirds (do check them out!), and it was thanks to her reviews that I tried Girligo Body Mist (which sadly gave her a rash later). So when she asked if I could review Soap & Glory's Sexy Mother Pucker, I could hardly postpone!

Haul: Pre-birthday shopping at Lancome

I wanted to get a Rouge in Love lipstick because my mum has one and it lasts through a greasy meal, but they didn't have the shade I wanted (275M). I also wanted to try the Genefique Yeux Light Pearl, because I had heard so much about it. Here's what I bought:
First up, Lancome Hypnose Doll Eyes mascara. I was in the market for a new mascara and had tried a Hypnose mini - now exhausted. Normally, as I've told some of you, when I wear mascara, I look like other people do WITHOUT mascara. My lashes are fine, sparse and stubby. But then the SA tried Hypnose Dolls Eye on me and... wow! I actually had lashes! Will do an EOTD soon.

What's in my travel make-up bag?

I'm weird. Here's proof. No one else carries such a mad variety of stuff while travelling (please tell me you do, too, someone, and keep me sane).
My trusty Gillette bag busted after 15 years' service. I had filched the bag when my dad received a Gillette set as a Christmas present. Now I went around, found the cheapest and largest possible bag and proceeded to fill it up with randomness. I stuff it into my suitcase or backpack, which almost busts as well with all the other things I carry, and I'm all set for a week-long break.
I can't be bothered to carry different bags for toileteries, make-up, hair/bath/body and so on, so everything except medicines/first-aid goes into one giant bag. I've used this bag for the first time now and it's so crammed, I give it a survival period of three trips.

Here's what the front zipper holds:
Two toothbrushes (after the time I misplaced my solitary toothbrush and had to go OUT to buy one without brushing my teeth).
A Nivea chapstick and a Vaseline lip salve.
A shower cap.
A pair of tweezers and a cuticle remover.
A tiny tube of toothpaste for "emergencies" (read below).
The Body Shop cuticle oil.
A Maybelline lip liner which I don't like.

Inside the bag are:
A quarter of a tube of toothpaste (remember what I said above about "emergencies"? Further proof of weirdness).
Make-up brushes (in foldable purse).
Nine eyeliners (pencil, liquid and one gel). Yes, nine.
A Bourjois blush, the smallest I could find.
Bourjois neutral eyeshadow palette, Rimmel Glam' Eyes quad in Smoky Noir, Max Factor and The Body Shop eyeshadows.
A detangling comb (which reminds me - there's a hairbrush in my handbag).
My HG Shiseido Sheer Mattifying Compact Foundation and a back-up (L'Oreal La Poudre).
Origins lip gloss in Wild Flower and Max Factor clear lip gloss.
Two mascaras (one revolving) and a hair clip.
Lancome Genefique deluxe sample and Lancome Genefique Yeux deluxe sample (love both).
Maybelline make-up remover deluxe sample and Dior Capture Totale sample (eye cream).
Garnier eye roll-on (light) and Chambor concealer (I use both as eye concealers).
A four-way nail buff and Benzoyl Peroxide 5% for acne
Vaseline hand cream, Colgate dental floss and a razor.
Estee Lauder Nutritious Vita-Mineral Foundation deluxe sample (I use the Shiseido compact mostly).
Laura Mercier Shine Control translucent setting powder (HG! I keep this in my handbag for touch-ups).
Sunblock (I pour Shiseido into a tiny case of a sunblock brand I picked up in Singapore).
Estee Lauder Double-Wear Stay in Place Lip Duo in Mega Mauve.
Estee Lauder sample bottles of Day Moisturiser Lotion and Matte Effect Primer (refilled when depleted).
Travel-bottles (some purchased, some sample bottles and some from hotels) filled with:
Foot cream, sulphate-free shampoo (TBS), conditioner (Herbal Essences), hair serum, hair oil, pore refiner (EL), body lotion (TBS), my Brevoxyl face wash, shower gel and a sample vial of perfume (Estee Lauder Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia)

I forgot to pack the foot scrub, the foot file, the face scrub and the face mask... next time!

Now bring on the brickbats!

Jane Iredale Lip Fixation in Devotion review, swatches, photos

I bought this Jane Iredale lippy because it matched a dress perfectly and I wanted to wear the dress to my cousin's wedding.
The Lip Fixation series comprises a tube with a stain at one end and gloss at the other. All the shades in the range that I saw - and all the glosses - seemed to have shimmer, though I haven't seen the entire range. The gloss and the stain come in complementary shades.
I love the packaging. Slipped right into the already-crowded box clutch I took to the wedding, clear box and all. There's a 'J' and an 'I' in gold on either ends of the tube. The shade I bought was called "Devotion". The stain looked a lot more red inside the tube, but turned into a beautiful shimmering berry when applied.
