ROSE SECRET BOX: KOREAN MYSTERY BEAUTY BOX UNBOXING

I've got over men alright, but there's one thing I haven't ever got over - the Memebox. Remember it, anyone? Korean beauty box that shipped worldwide? Best beauty box EVER? Came JAM-PACKED with beauty products, all full-sized, and in myriad themes and variants, from Superfood, Wine and Cheese, and Chocolate, to weird ingredients, colour- and scent-themed boxes, and regular monthly boxes. New here, and don't believe a WORD I say? Go here rightaway to check out ALL my Memebox unboxings. I bought more than 50 (60?) of the things in a span of about a year and a half.
The problem is that Memebox RUINED all other beauty boxes for me. I am no longer satisfied with half-baked samples. Don't give me random scrubs. Or pencil liners. Or old shite that won't sell, and you want to shill. Or anything that's not thoughtfully curated, but is haphazardly thrown in a box.
Rose Rose Shop, a Korean beauty retailer who ships worldwide, used to do sampler boxes. But the samples were small, and you also got things like fashion earrings, which I did not want. I did buy the one sampler - see here for my unboxing. Then, they stopped those.
Recently, RRS has been doing Mystery Boxes! This is their second season of doing these - I missed out on the first box. They promise at LEAST seven full-sized products, WITHOUT counting sheet masks. That was a deal-clencher for me. For $35, including FREE worldwide shipping, that's just about $5 per product! Plus, you also get samples and other things.
I ordered mine immediately, and was pleased to find that I got EIGHT full-sized products, including three makeup. In addition to those, I also got a bunch of samples, and four sheet masks. To know exactly what I received, go straight down!

Fun Ingredients Memebox review, unboxing

Beauty products featuring wine, cheese, honey and bananas, in fun packaging.

Fun Ingredients Memebox review, unboxing

Recently, Memebox had an absolutely fun beauty box out - they called it the "Fun Ingredients" box. This was a "n@kedbox", which means you could see the contents beforehand and then place your order; no nasty surprises. I took one look at two keywords - wine and cheese - and placed my order. I had already bought the Wine and Cheese Memebox, unboxed here, but the products listed with the Fun box appeared more useable. Anyway, you can never have enough wine or cheese. The other ingredients included honey and banana - with all that goodness in your skincare, you cannot go wrong.
The term "fun" did not really translate into kooky, cutesy or weird ingredients, as you will see below.
Because the products were already revealed beforehand, I did not have the fun of guessing but I wanted red wine instead of white wine for the face mask - and I was lucky enough to get it, for once!

Memebox Cleanse Morning & Night beauty box review, unboxing

A Memebox with five full-sized cleansing products.

Memebox Cleanse Morning & Night beauty box review, unboxing

Having seriously acne-prone and oily skin that breaks out if I skip one session of facial cleansing, I am obsessed with cleansing products and use cleansing oils, face washes, scrubs, hot cloths and makeup removers with alarming regularity. Cleansing beauty boxes always attract me - check out the first Memebox Cleansing box here, and the Wishtrend Cleansing box here.
Last month, Memebox resumed release of regular beauty boxes, and one of their offerings was the Cleanse Morning and Night box. The box promised products for a squeaky-clean face all day long. I expected a cleansing oil, a peeling gel, a foaming face wash, a face and/or body scrub, maybe a body wash and a cleansing brush/wipes, and a toner. The latter is pretty much a dead cert in most Korean skincare boxes.

Memebox January 2015 beauty box 19 review, unboxing

Here is the first Global Edition Memebox of the year.

Memebox January beauty box 19 review, unboxing

The Global Edition Memeboxes received an overhaul in late 2014 and were promptly renamed "monthly Memeboxes". Which is fine, but then shipping for each box begins on the 24th of the month so chances of these boxes reaching their destinations - most often around the world - in six days flat are remote and the January box itself reached me on February 4. I wonder when they will wise up to that one.

Read on for my unboxing of the Global Edition 19 Memebox, recently rechristened the January 2015 box.

Memebox Wake Up Makeup Special 37 review, unboxing

A beauty box that promises a fresh, well-rested "just-woke-from-beauty-sleep" look.

Memebox Wake Up Makeup Special 37 review, unboxing

I had a wisdom tooth surgically extracted yesterday and have retired from public life for a week as a result, but there are enough posts in the wings to keep the content flowing while I look like I've got a bad case of painful mumps.
Memebox Special 37 is called the "Wakeup Makeup" box - no, that does not mean it has products that you apply as soon as you wake up, nor does it give you a bedhead. This box contains products that give you brighter skin and eyes, making you look as if you had extra beauty sleep.
Regular sleep went for a toss sometime last year for me, and I'm a sucker for anything that promises a well-rested look. I expected basic foundation or BB cream, eye liner, mascara - vital for my eyes to look open - a fresh pink lip tint, de-puffing eye gel, concealer and something to soothe the skin.

Check out the contents of the Wakeup Makeup Memebox below.

Memebox Superbox 78 Dirty Gal review, unboxing

Memebox Superbox 78 Dirty Gal review, unboxing
By the end of November 2014, Memebox toned down. They stopped releasing new boxes. The boxes that were being sent out were a tad meh and did not match up to the quality and value of the boxes that had come in the first half of 2014. There was a bit of a wag in the tail of the year, and some Christmas and Boxing Day special boxes were out, but nothing regular.
The Dirty Gal Superbox 78 was one of the last Memeboxes I ordered. The USP was that this box would contain dirty but fun beauty ingredients. I expected mud packs, clay-based beauty products, bifida bacteria (a big hit in super-serums such as Lancome Advanced Genefique or Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair), even - ugh - those worm dropping thingies that had featured in some Memebox I had the good fortune to avoid.

Memebox 81 Next Best Thing in Skin Care review, unboxing

Memebox 81 Next Best Thing in Skin Care review, unboxing

The Next Best Thing in Skin Care Memebox was released after a little lull - which has now turned into a huge lull on their side - so I bought the box despite already having enough Korean skin care products to use for a few months. Thankfully, most Memeboxes contain products expiring in 2016 and beyond. The description said that this box would contain all the latest trends in Korean skin care, including new packs, creams and masks. I expected it to be another version of the OMG boxes, but with innovative products rather than weird ingredients.

Memebox Apple Mojito Special 65 Review, Unboxing

Memebox Apple Mojito Special 65 Review, Unboxing
Ever a cocktail fan, I love mojitos only next to pina coladas and margaritas. High time Memebox did a pina colada box. They recently launched an apple mojito box, stating it contain a "healthy crush of high-energy refreshing fruit mixes", just in case you were actually expecting an apple mojito in there. The box is more like a general fruit box with little of the mojito element to be seen. Nonetheless, it is a decent beauty box by itself. I just wish they had not advertised it as mojito.

Check out my review of the Memebox Special 65 Apple Mojito beauty box.

Memebox Special 53 Wine and Cheese Cosmetics review, unboxing

Memebox Special 53 Wine and Cheese Cosmetics review, unboxing

I watched The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies on Friday night and it was epic. Quite a few differences from the book, but a grand movie nonetheless. The entire cinema teared up over the two deaths (I bawled through two tissues despite expecting it from the book) and applauded Legolas's agility. I have been spending the better part of the weekend refreshing my memory by returning to Tolkien's books and I haven't managed to do a quarter of the errands I intended to complete, though I have ROTK left to re-read now. All I can talk about are Thorin, Kili, Bard and others from Middle-Earth.
But I can talk about wine anytime. White is my favourite version, though I will go for red when white is not to be had. Anytime, all the time, be it sauvignon blanc, pinot gris or chardonnay. I also have a love for country wines. I went on a trekking holiday in October and returned with 14 bottles - fig, gooseberry, passion fruit, grape, pomegranate, pineapple and so on - and have got through only three bottles so far. Fig wine was particularly nice.
When Memebox released a Wine and Cheese skincare box, I did not wait to look at the price, description, shipping date or even my credit card balance before placing my order. We all know the benefits of wine-based skincare, and I already love the Dear by Enprani Bounce Cheese Cream.

Memebox Special 42 OMG 3 review, unboxing, December codes

Memebox Special 42 OMG 3 review, unboxing
The OMG series of beauty boxes from Memebox contain products with bizarre, weird and eyebrow-raising ingredients which are all the rage in Korea. Think snake venom in a face serum, volcanic pebbles for mattifying the face and so on - and those are just two of the products I received in my OMG 2 box, which is reviewed here. This series has proven so popular that Memebox has released four editions, each featuring different products.

Memebox Superbox 62 Just Gellin' unboxing, review

Memebox Superbox 62 Just Gellin' unboxing, review
Are you a fan of gel-based skincare products and makeup? I am! Gel-based skincare does not break me out as much as creams or lotions do. And, I love gel eyeliners a lot more than pencil eyeliners, though I must be honest and confess that liquid eyeliners are my favourite. When Memebox released a gel-textured beauty box, I was definitely going to buy it! I expected a gel eyeliner, a gel-based lip tint, a peeling gel and a few gel creams, for starters. Find out if I was right.

Memebox Global Edition 16 unboxing, review

Memebox Global Edition 16 unboxing, review
Shipping out on the 24th of every month, the Global Edition Memeboxes were the first beauty boxes the company brought out for sale outside of Korea. I haven't missed any of them since box 8 - I had bought 4 and 5, and then 6 and 7 were sold out before I could wake up. Costing just $23, they contain skincare for most part, though I have seen the odd lip tint or CC cream slip in. They are always great value for money, and Global Edition 16 is reportedly worth more than $100! I have preordered up to box 19 and can't wait for the next bundle - boxes 20-23? - to come out.

Check out my unboxing of Global Edition 16 from Memebox.

Chocolate Mania Memebox review

Memebox Special 45 Chocolate Mania beauty box review, codes

You think you have seen the best Memebox ever, when wham comes another one that far surpasses it. I had maintained that the Cacao box, reviewed here, was their best effort yet. Presuming that this box could not be bettered, I almost did not buy the Chocolate Mania box! But sense prevailed at the last minute, and I had a code to use up.
I prefer white chocolate for eating, but love beauty products based on regular brown chocolate. With the smell of chocolate hitting the nostrils as soon as the package is opened, the Special #45 Chocolate Mania beauty box comes with not five or six, but eight full-sized products. All of which I can put to good use. There is everything in here that you need for a chocolate facial at home. And this box cost a mere $23!
The two chocolate-based Memebox have only served to make me want more chocolate-based beauty products, so I hope they release a third edition soon, featuring chocolate body butter, body lotion and a face serum.

Blackheads No More Memebox review

Memebox Superbox 63 Blackheads No More box review, unboxing, codes
Blackheads. Who has not had them, and who does not hate them? Actually, I get more whiteheads than blackheads, being acne-prone. But I do hate those blackhead removing devices they have in salons. The metallic ones that scrape off the sides of your nose, making you think you are undergoing rhinoplasty, without anesthesia. Why do so many beauty devices look like torture devices and cause pain?

Memebox My Mask Box 5 unboxing

The second edition of Memebox's Mask box was such a success, as you can see from my review here, that I ordered the fifth edition pronto. Why did I not get the fourth and third boxes, you ask? Because they were out before I got my second box and were sold out by the time I realised that they were going to be great boxes.
Good skincare is the best makeup you can have. And masks are such a vital part of skincare - they hydrate, mattify, treat, soothe and refresh, enliven and well, I'm out of verbs. A mask box, ideally, ought to contain a couple of face masks - one hydrating and one some kind of repair - antiageing, sun damage, the works, a sleeping mask, a couple of eye masks, a hair mask, a lip mask and maybe a hand or foot mask. That is pretty much everything. Did I get all of that here?

Pinkaholic Memebox unboxing

Memebox Pinkaholic beauty box review, unboxing
Pink is not my favourite colour. I prefer deep and/or sombre shades for clothing and decor, such as dark blue, violet, brown, beige and black - except for lipstick. I just love dusty pink, mauve and rose lipsticks and keep buying more in the same shades. Recently, I have begun loving rose and rose gold eyeshadows as well, and mauve-pink nail polish. So when Memebox released a Pinkaholic beauty box, I signed up, expecting a bunch of pink nail polishes, eyeshadows and lipsticks, and maybe a blush or two. A makeup-heavy box. I certainly did not expect a skincare-centric box!

All About Brows Memebox unboxing

Memebox All About Brows review, unboxing, codes
I hope everyone is having as enjoyable a week as I am! I will show you all my vacation photos once I'm back. Right now, it is all I can do to keep my eyes open long enough to have dinner; trekking, rock-climbing and so on are energy-sapping, and my calf-muscles and hamstrings feel like they have been repeatedly hacked at with an axe, despite my being a regular gymmer.
I am a HUGE fan of Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade. I also love Benefit Gimme Brow as a quick replacement. So much so that once I discovered those two, I gave away two cases of Benefit BrowZings.
But that did not stop me from ordering the All About Brows beauty box from Memebox, because, as my fellow makeup-addict, beauty adviser and mother told me, all you need are decent eyebrows, eyeliner, concealer and some colour on your lips to brighten up your look instantly. Besides, you can never have too many eyebrow products!

Memebox My Cute Wishlist 2 unboxing

Memebox My Cute Wishlist 2 review, unboxing, deals and codes
The car got stuck today and had to be physically lifted up by a few dozen complete strangers. Details and photos further below.
Korean and Japanese products are known for their "Kawaii" (cute or adorable) factor. Which is why you have all those lip balms shaped like candy canes, perfume bottles shaped like rabbits and hand cream jars shaped like penguins. I was thrilled to find that Memebox was coming out with the "My Cute Wishlist" beauty boxes, where you could expect to find a selection of kawaii beauty trinkets. Having missed the first edition of the box owing to work commitments - it sold out very fast - I ordered the second version.
The first Cute box was extremely good, with both cuteness and product utility. I am still kicking myself for having missed it.

Memepoints giveaway winners and holiday photos

Western Ghats Waynad trekking holiday photos
Hello there! If you are reading this, that means I have internet high up at around 2,000'. I am on a week-long trekking/camping/rafting/rock-climbing holiday. A rest-cure, if you will.
Anyway, before I wax eloquent about the greenery, the rivers, the fog and the mountains and the waterfalls (yep, they're all there), which actually merit a separate post, I want to announce the winners of the Memebox points giveaway. As you know, the first winner gets 30 Memepoints to buy their first box, and two others get 7 Memepoints apiece to save on postage on their first box. As everyone also gets 3 Memepoints for signing up and you can use my code B0EB for a further $5 off, that means even the third prize winner gets $15 off their first box, which is not bad at all. More below.

Memebox Scent Bundle 2 review, unboxing

Memebox Scent Bundle 2 review, unboxing: Tropical Fruits, Sweet Shop, Floral beauty boxes
After the fiasco that occurred over my Scent Bundle 1 from Memebox, I was not entirely surprised to receive only two boxes in the second Scent bundle as well - my external box was completely trashed and broken and Tropical Fruits was missing. But it was comparatively quicker and easier to have them send out a replacement this time. So while I am more than a month late with this review, the fact that I have all three boxes at hand is much cause for comfort. Please click on each photo to enlarge it!
Memebox Scent Bundle 2 review, unboxing: Tropical Fruits, Sweet Shop, Floral beauty boxes

For those who came in late, Memebox Scent Bundles are a group of three fragrance-themed beauty boxes where you buy two and get one free, so that is three beauty boxes for $30, which is a brilliant deal, especially if you use a discount code or points additionally. You can check out my review of the first set here.
