Made by one of New Zealand's most famous bath and body brands, Les Floralies (a.k.a. Matakana Botanicals), these contain locally sourced ingredients. The company was born when the current owner's mother decided to make some potpourri, back in 1986, instead of buying aerosol cans of room fresheners. Today, their products are included in amenity kits in Emirates' First Class and in Air New Zealand flights, and are sold in countries around the world.
More on Les Floralies Apothecary Sniff Boxes below.
Les Floralies's "Apothecary" range consists of five of these sniff boxes. The Sniff box fragrances are Aerobic, Balance, Focus, Recovery and Sleep. These have not been tested on animals. The range has been created by New Zealand Aromatherapist Mary Wakefield.
Each box contains aroma beads, infused with a blend of oils. Aerobic, for instance, contains cedar, eucalyptus, pine and olibanum and is meant to invigorate and energise.
Balance is meant to calm, and contains bergamot, geranium and ylang ylang. It is a must-have during PMT. I expected Sleep to be my favourite but prefer Balance. And yes, I do feel happier with the world in general during that time of the month when I have taken a few sniffs.
With lemon, cinnamon and bergamot, Focus aims at clearing the mind. The SA told me students would love it. Recovery contains rose, marjoram, black pepper and olibannum and promises to cheer you up.
Finally, Sleep contains neroli, lavender - grown near Lake Taupo - and camomile and will soothe and relax you. I love this one.
A gift set of Sleep and Focus sniff boxes are sold as a jet-lag kit. Which means I need to take these along on my next trip. Below are photos of the actual beads themselves. All you have to do is place the box right under your nose and take a few deep breaths. The smell is divine and both of the boxes I bought contain a relaxing and calming aromatherapy blend.
Verdict and where to buyI love these sniff boxes and regret not buying the entire set. Both of these are on my nightstand and I reach for them on those toss-and-turn nights, and they help me feel much better.
How long will the aroma last? I have had these since 2013 and the fragrances are as fresh as ever. So I would say at least two years.
Each box costs NZ$9.90. Les Floralies delivers internationally, though shipping charges depend on the country. The boxes are also available in pharmacies in Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, the UAE and so on.
If you want to buy online, you can do so from Les Floralies here - they ship worldwide! For my American readers, C.O. Bigelow sells and ships within the USA here. They also ship internationally. However, boxes cost US$10 there.
