First blogoversary special: Vintage makeup advertisements from 1920s-1950s magazines

Vintage makeup and skin care advertisements from magazines
My Beauty Junction is one year old today! I am so thrilled! I never dreamt that auditing my stash by writing about it would turn into a blog I am passionate about, and become a way of meeting some lovely people - thank you all for coming over and reading my blather!
Anyway, I'm sharing something very special and nostalgic to mark this anniversary - a collection of vintage makeup and skin care advertisements hoarded from my maternal great-grandmother's time. The daughter of a landlord (and later a school headmaster's wife), she bought early copies of Good Housekeeping, launched in 1922, and kept every single one. After her time, her magazines went to her youngest daughter - Gran - who was younger than great-gran's eldest grandchildren. Gran in turn hoarded the Girls' Own Paper and Heiress magazines into the 1950s during her teens and my Mum added a few Women's Own magazines to the pile in the 70s.
Being a nerd whose immediate family all collect antiques, I must say I thoroughly enjoyed doing this post.

Here are some lovely vintage advertisements of makeup and beauty products from the 1920s to the 1950s from various magazines.

Make Up For Ever: MUFE Aqua eye Liner review, swatches, dupes photos

MUFE Aqua eye Liner swatches, review, dupes, photos
If you love liquid eyeliner, you NEED the Make Up For Ever Aqua Liner in your life - they're the best! There are 15 shades in MUFE Aqua Liner's entire range, of which I own 10, am completely out of two (#8 and #9) and can't find two (#12 and #5) as usual in my messy vanity.
I'm swatching shades #3 and 4, #6 and 7 and #10 and 11 of MUFE Aqua Liner. These are waterproof, high-precision, smudge-proof and super-easy to apply and come in colours as diverse as pink and orange and as wearable as deep brown and deep blue. There is something here for everyone.

Bourjois Rouge Edition lipstick swatches and Max Factor liquid eyeliner review

For some time now, I have been thinking about getting the Bourjois 8-in-1 BB cream compact. I'm not a BB cream person after trying out quite a few of them; I prefer the decent coverage of a foundation. But this was a compact, and, more importantly, this was Bourjois. So I asked a couple of bloggers and decided to go for it. I've used it only twice and am loving it already. I shall review it in detail, once I put it through a reasonable trial period. There are only four shades available, but apparently they adapt to different skin tones. This is 22 Beige Dore or Golden Beige, which should suit anyone medium, from NC 30 to 42, according to the SA.

Manicure: Max Factor Nailfinity in Blue Energy with Meylon glitter polish

One of my resolutions for 2013 is to finish up all my old or unwanted makeup items and make space on my crowded shelves. So during the first ransack of the year, I found a Max Factor nail polish I had bought ages ago, when I was buying any kind of blue polish.
This shade, #724 or Blue Energy, had caught my eye at their counter. But on wearing it at home, I found it was streaky and didn't apply very well. It was sheer, so I had to apply three coats for opacity, and it chipped and faded within two days. So it was relegated to the back of my nail polish drawer till today. It went on as streaky and icky as ever today and I felt there was something missing.
