YSL Baby Doll Kiss & Blush Lips & Cheek Soft Matte Colour Review, Swatches

Yves Saint Laurent Baby Doll Kiss & Blush Lips & Cheek Soft Matte Colours look rather like nail polish bottles. I had overlooked them, but the SA suggested that I might find a long-wearing lipstick among them. Neither liquids nor creams, these are mousses, the SA said, and can be blended nicely on the lips and the cheeks.

Packaging of YSL Baby Doll Kiss & Blush Lips & Cheek Soft Matte Colour

The packaging is beautiful. It is very easy to mistake this for a nail polish bottle. The applicator is tricky and you need a brush or multiple swipes for an even finish - you will see what I mean from the swatches.
For various reasons - including hygiene - I use "lip and cheek" products on the lips alone and prefer dedicated cheek products, so I am going to ignore this product's performance as a blush.

Formula, Coverage and Staying Power of YSL Baby Doll Kiss & Blush Lips & Cheek Soft Matte Colour

YSL calls this an "air-whipped mousse". Thin, lightweight and the last word in creamy, the formula contains hyaluronic "spheres" and pomegranate extract. Needless to say, it is not drying on the lips.
For full coverage, you need two swipes with the applicator or use a lip brush; the applicator will not give full opacity. Staying power is a good five to six hours and you need to touch up after a good meal. Even so, it leaves behind a stain.

Swatches on bare skin

There are 12 shades in this range. I picked 10 - Nude Insolent.
The topmost swatch is directly with the applicator. See what I mean by tricky? You get two streaks of colour with a sheerer patch in the middle. The applicator is more suitable for applying the product as a blush.
The second swatch is with a lip brush. Much better.
On the right are the stains leftover after I removed the swatches thoroughly with Caudalie Micellar Water.

On the lips - natural light and direct sunlight, respectively.

Verdict and where to buy

If you are a fan of a mousse formula for the lips and love creamy lightweight finishes with full opacity, then YSL Baby Doll Kiss & Blush Lips & Cheek Soft Matte Colour will appeal to you. There is a good range of shades to choose from. I have been eyeing shade 12, which is a deeper neutral, but it was out of stock at the counter.
Though these are $40 each, you get a generous 10ml when compared to the usual 4g that bullet lipsticks offer.
